📜 History of America Recycles Day

Kevin Teurff and Valerie Davis continued to observe Texas Recycles Day as long as they worked for the Texas Commission. When they quit their positions, they recommended renaming Texas Recycles Day America Recycles Day. The suggestion was adopted by the National Recycling Coalition, and America Recycles Day was born.

The inaugural America Recycles Day was declared in Florida, and more than 40 states took part. The National Recycling Coalition has worked to extend recycling activities around the country over the years. There are now over 3,000 events in all 50 states.

Recycling has climbed from 7% in the 1960s to 32% now, thanks to the efforts of the Recycling Coalition and the America Recycles Day activities.

Keep America Beautiful, America’s biggest community group, works to improve neighborhoods by eliminating trash and promoting recycling. This group is a major organizer of America Recycles Day events.

Throughout the month of November, they arrange and promote recycling events. As part of their plan to cut down on trash, they get volunteers to clean up neighborhoods and collect things that can be reused.

They also use social media campaigns to get individuals to recycle more, thus raising recycling rates across the country.

Contact local businesses who offer recycled goods and organize a fun pop-up market where people can discover and buy recycled goods!
