📜 History of Anesthesia Tech Day
In 1846, anesthesia was utilized for the first surgical procedure. Sulfuric ether was used to anesthetize a patient for vascular tumor removal surgery by Boston, Massachusetts dentist William T.G. Morton. Morton named this finding “Letheon,” after the Greek mythology’s Lethe River, which was depicted as a strong river that aids in the removal of bad memories. Following this finding, he achieved financial success.
In attempts to increase anesthetic performance in the medical area, an enormous evolution occurred. This includes the 1844 discovery of laughing gas and the 1898 effective use of cocaine as a spinal anesthetic. Dr. Mathias J. Seifert of Chicago copyrighted the phrases “anesthesiology” and “anesthesiology” in 1902. Today, contemporary anesthesia is a standard instrument for medicine and surgery that is adjusted to the needs of the patient. Anesthesia has progressed from dentistry and cosmetics to general medicine.
