📜 History of Arabic Language Day

The Qur’an, Islam’s sacred book, provides the majority of our knowledge of Classical Arabic. The text is the first important record of the written Arabic language and gives vital insight into its structure. Over a billion Muslims today learn Arabic in order to read the Qur’an in its original language.

Arabic, like other Semitic languages, is written from right to left and features several sounds not found in English or other languages. The lovely “alphabet” of Arabic isn’t really an alphabet, at least not in the phonetic sense we’re used to. Each sign in the abjad writing system represents a consonant, with accents representing vowel sounds. Instead of capital letters, quote marks are used to add emphasis.

The majority of words are derived from a fundamental, thematically related root. For example, all words connected to writing have the letters “k, t, b,” enhanced with extra word elements. By researching a word’s origin, you may learn about its category in the world.

Even though most English speakers might find it hard to learn Arabic, Arabic is the source of many important and useful English words, such as algebra, alcohol, coffee, loofah, tariff, cotton, and many more.

Arabic was made one of the six official UN languages on December 18, 1993, because of how important it is and how widely it is used around the world.
