📜 History of Buddhist Lent

During this month, Buddhists frequently abstain from meat and give up bad habits like smoking and drinking. Their mind, body, and soul will be clearer if they simplify their lives. In fact, for the first three months, monks were not permitted to leave the temple; however, customs have shifted gradually over time. The rationale for this restriction was that leaving the temple may result in the monks accidentally killing an insect or injuring flora and trees, both of which Buddha would not condone. What was most important to him was the preservation of life.

The first and last days of Buddhist Lent are the most important in terms of special days. The full moon day of Waso is thought to be the day Buddha was created. On the full moon, he also delivered his first sermon. During these three months, food is donated to the poor, and all Buddhists endeavor to do as many good deeds as they can.
