📜 History of Check the Chip Day

In the 1990s, the Microchip Advisory Collection was formed by a group of microchip providers, veterinarians, and animal charities (the Microchip Trade Association, as it is called today). Around this time, the Federation of European Companion Animal Veterinary Associations (F.E.C.A.V.A.) studied microchip technical and compatibility concerns in order to monitor the quality and enhance the standard of microchips for animals. Their strategy involved developing a code of conduct for vets as well as maintaining a high level of quality for their equipment and database. By 1996, the International Standards Organization (I.S.O.) had introduced the I.S.O. 11784-1996 and I.S.O. 11785-1996, which were accepted by the United Kingdom to assure animal safety via the use of cutting-edge technology.

Microchipped pets now have a 20-fold greater return-to-owner rate than non-microchipped pets. Check the Chip Day is an excellent opportunity to raise awareness about this effective technology that safeguards pets.
