Harris was born on October 20, 1964, in Kingston, Jamaica, to Jamaican father Donald J. Harris and Indian mother Shyamala Gopalan. Harris is an activist, lawyer, author, and politician who served as California’s first female Attorney General from 2011 to 2017, as a Senator from 2017 to 2021, and as the current Vice President of the United States. She met Doug Emhoff in 2013 and married him in 2014.
