πŸ“œ History of Feast of the Assumption

In the seventh century, Pope Sergius I supported Assumption festivities in the West, and Pope Leo IV validated the feast as legitimate.
Despite the church never pointing to any tangible historical or explicit Biblical proof (the Biblical quotations being mainly symbolic) or explicitly recognizing the story’s reliance on apocrypha, the feast has not only survived but has thrived to this day.

✨ Things to do on Feast of the Assumption

⚑ Attend a mass
It’s a “Day of Obligation” for Catholics, but regardless of your opinions about God and religion, go and sit at the back, or ask a friend if you may go with them and their family. If it feels correct, investigate your genuine sentiments.

⚑ Plant a Mary garden
It’s a European tradition, but you don’t have to live there to recognize Mary as the first believer in Christ’s resurrection and “the first fruit” of a large future crop. It is usual to have a tiny statue of her standing over your common plants.

⚑ Eat!
It’s not called a “feast” for nothing. Make arrangements to go out to eat, make something at home, volunteer at a soup kitchen, and eat whatever is on the menu while reflecting on Mary’s life, death, and legacyβ€”the only limit is your creativity.
