Gautama outlined the Four Noble Truths and the Noble Eightfold Path in this speech titled “Setting the Wheel of Dhamma in Motion.” According to the sermon, there are four universal noble truths: the reality of suffering, the source of suffering, the possibility of ending the cause of suffering, and the way to the end of suffering. He proposed that following the Middle Path, or the Noble Eightfold Path, may alleviate a person’s suffering: right vision, right thinking, right speech, right action, right livelihood, right effort, right mindfulness, and right concentration.
