Ganesh Chaturthi, also known as Vinayaka Chaturthi, is a ten-day celebration dedicated to commemorating Ganesha, the Hindu deity of intellect. The day is typically held in the Gregorian months of August or September, and it is marked by prayer, public and private display of Ganesha statues, chanting of Vedic hymns, and fasting. On the last day of the celebration, a Ganesha statue is taken in a public parade and thrown into a nearby body of water. When the clay evaporates, Ganesha is said to return to Shiva. Ganesh Chaturthi is celebrated all over India, as well as in places like Nepal where there are a lot of Hindus.
