📜 History of Girl Scout Founder’s Day

She gathered 18 girls in her hometown of Savannah, Georgia, and wanted to teach them the principles she had acquired overseas. Outdoor activities, adventures, unique initiatives, and youth education were all part of it.

The organization was formerly known as the Girl Guides until changing its name to the Girl Scouts in 1915. Juliette Gordon Low pioneered the initiative to instill confidence in young females. Drilling and camping were two of the military-related activities. She also chose to teach the girls how to tie knots, read maps, cook, administer first aid, and care for livestock.

She stayed engaged in the movement until her death at the age of 66 in 1927. Her birthdate coincides with Girl Scout Founder’s Day. She received considerable criticism at the start of the campaign from those who did not believe girls should participate in such activities. The most noteworthy was James E. West, CEO of the Boy Scouts of America, who stated that the Girl Guides’ activities were unsuitable for them because they were female. But she persisted, learning more from the Girl’s Guides in England.
