📜 History of Girl Scout Leader Appreciation Day

Juliette Low suggested a merger of the Camp Fire Girls with the Girl Guides in late 1912, but it was rejected in January 1913 since the Camp Fire Girls were the larger group at the time.

After the planned merger failed, she attempted to unite the group with the Girl Scouts of America, which was created in Des Moines, Iowa by Clara Lisetor-Lane, believing that the similarities between the two organizations would make it simpler. This did not go well since Lisetor-Lane believed Low had copied her organization and vowed to sue. Lisetor-group Lane’s eventually falls apart owing to a lack of financial resources.

The Girl Guides of America renamed themselves the Girl Scouts of the United States and relocated their headquarters to Washington, D.C. in 1913. On March 16, 1947, the name was changed to its current form, Girl Scouts of the United States of America (G.S.U.S.A.). Today, more than 50 million American women have engaged in Girl Scouts, and G.S.U.S.A. represents over 10 million members in 146 countries through its participation in the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts.
