📜 History of Giving Hearts Day
The Dakota Medical Foundation sold part of the hospital to a for-profit firm in Houston in the 1990s. After a few years, the other half of the business was sold to the same company. Within the foundation, charitable establishments were founded in the early 2000s. The Dakota Medical Foundation established the Impact Foundation in 2005. The purpose of establishing this foundation was to provide a means to finance enterprises and make charitable loans.
Giving Hearts Day was established in 2008 by the Dakota Medical Foundation and the Impact Foundation as a flagship event to urge people to contribute and donate as much as possible. Within 24 hours, both foundations mobilized and collected more than $450,000 from local non-profits. Since then, Giving Hearts Day has been observed on the second Thursday of February each year as a day to contribute as much as possible to charity organizations and make a difference in the lives of millions.

✅ It saved lives using A.E.D.
Using the Automated External Defibrillator, D.M.F. saved around 30 lives each year in the early 2000s (A.E.D.).

About $400,000 has been given by the D.M.F. to help nursing students get into the tri-colleges.

To provide development resources, the D.M.F. has partnered with the Alex Stern Family Foundation.
