He assumed the throne that evening, on December 1, 2016. From May 4 to May 6, 2019, he was crowned. The Thai government retrospectively declared his rule to have started on October 13, 2016, even though his coronation had taken place months earlier. Rama X, the tenth ruler of the Chakri dynasty, is another name for him. Vajiralongkorn became the oldest Thai king to ascend to the throne when he was 64 years old.
Previously, this holiday was observed on December 5, the day of King Bhumibol Adulyadej’s birthday. Although the King’s birthday has been moved to July 28 since 2017, Thailand continues to observe December 5 as King Bhumibol Adulyadej’s birthday. Most banks, government buildings, and establishments will be closed on H.M. King’s Birthday. There is no prohibition on the sale of alcohol, and many stores will remain open.
