📜 History of Humiliation Day

On May 6, 1779, General George Washington, Commander-in-Chief of the Continental Army, likewise declared a day of fasting, humility, and prayer for his troops. For one day, the troops suspended all activity and labor. During their presidency, some presidents choose not to issue the proclamation.Nonetheless, on March 23, 1798, US President John Adams resurrected the practice. He advocated a day of solemn humility, fasting, and prayer in which citizens would put aside their worldly concerns and present their humble selves to a greater force.

To satisfy God, U.S. President Abraham Lincoln wrote to the Senate in 1863, suggesting that the country needed to observe a day of humility, fasting, and prayer. It was a request to assist the country and its people in finding inner peace and becoming more spiritual and loyal to God. Humiliation Day has become more secular in recent years, with acts of kindness and humility done for charitable reasons rather than to make God happy.
