📜 History of In God We Trust Day

President Dwight Eisenhower backed a joint resolution of the 84th Congress in July 1955 that required the phrase “In God We Trust” to appear on all American money. This took effect two years after the law was passed, when it was first used on paper money. Later, on July 30, 1956, Congress passed a follow-up measure, also signed by President Eisenhower, making the phrase the national motto. This clause is also permitted in public institutions or schools, and the states of Florida, Georgia, and Mississippi have included the phrase in several of their state insignia. The slogan appears on the coinage of numerous nations, including Nicaragua.

The phrase “In God We Trust” is still prevalent in America today. “College Pulse” did a survey of students in 2019 and found that 53% of students liked the idea of putting the phrase “In God We Trust” on American money.
