📜 History of International Day for Mine Awareness and Assistance in Mine Action

U.N.M.A.S.’s mission is to save lives, facilitate the deployment of UN missions, provide humanitarian assistance to protect civilians, support the voluntary return of internally displaced people and refugees, enable humanitarian and recovery activities, and advocate for international humanitarian and human rights laws. The United Nations Mine Action Service has five pillars of mine action: clearance, mine-risk education, victim assistance, advocacy, and stockpile destruction. The group assists in the identification of high-risk locations, supports and rehabilitates victims, and fights for the prohibition and control of landmines. The organization also provides technical assistance to help remove accumulated explosive dangers. Inadequately managed conventional ammunition stocks endanger public safety and endanger the security of people living in such locations.

Mine action also assists people in surviving and thriving by clearing crucial access routes and making fertile land available to farmers. U.N.M.A.S. operates in a variety of countries, including Afghanistan, Colombia, the Central African Republic, Sudan, Libya, Nigeria, and Syria.
