📜 History of International Day of Pink

Jer’s Vision established International Day of Pink (now the Canadian Centre for Gender and Sexual Diversity). Unlike Pink Shirt Day in February, which aims to put a stop to all types of bullying, International Day of Pink in April aims to stand in solidarity with the 2SLGBTQIA+ community in their ongoing battle for equality and acceptance. The goal of the day is to make the world more open and diverse by getting students to question social norms, ask more of their teachers, and speak out against bullying of 2SLGBTQIA+ people.
Discrimination can be based on age, disability, gender, color, or sexual orientation, and it is still prevalent in the 2SLGBTQIA+ community. The International Day of Pink is celebrated as the first step toward making a difference and breaking down societal barriers. On this day, wearing pink is said to symbolise acceptance, courage, diversity, equality, inclusion, kindness, and unity. People outside the community’s support and engagement will assist in disseminating the message of establishing a more inclusive and varied society. Discrimination against the 2SLGBTQIA+ group, hopefully, will disappear.
