📜 History of Levi Strauss Day
Later that year, Strauss established his wholesale firm in San Francisco as Levi Strauss & Co. In New York City, Strauss sold items made by his brothers. Clothing, purses, napkins, pillows, and even combs were among the items. He then went on to tents before arriving at Jeans. In 1871, Jacob W. Davis, one of his clients, went into company with Strauss to create blue jeans, making him the creator of riveted denim trousers in 1871, before patenting the design of pants in 1873.
But how did Davis become involved? Davis was a tailor who created the pattern in response to a request from a lady who wanted some sturdy working pants for her woodcutter husband. He made pants out of denim purchased from the Levi Strauss store, adding copper rivets to reinforce the stitching. This stylish new clothing spread by word of mouth, boosting demand to the point that Davis was at capacity and unable to meet demand, forcing him to patent his design. Strauss stepped in financially, assisting Davis in patenting the jeans and issuing the license, which eventually led to their being business partners-and successful ones at that!
