This remained a private innovation until 18 years later, when it was introduced to the rest of the world. The child took it upon himself to debut the frozen pop on a stick at Neptune Beach amusement park in Belmar, New Jersey. It was so effective that he sought a patent right away. At the prompting of his children, the confection was dubbed a “popsicle.” Until then, the popsicle was marketed as an “Epsicle Ice Pop.” The rest, as they say, is history, and popsicles have become synonymous with summer and joyful childhood memories.

Even though the phrase “popsicle” is a copyright term, practically all of us use it to describe any frozen dessert; in fact, popsicles frequently appear in song lyrics, movie dialogue, and literature without us even recognizing that they are protected by copyright!
