📜 History of National Chocolate Caramel Day
It was just a matter of time until some brilliant mind thought of mixing the two. Milton Hershey was the lucky recipient. Today, the name ‘Hershey’s’ is synonymous with high-quality chocolate goods, but few people are aware of the man behind the corporation who made chocolate caramel popular throughout the United States.
During the 1800s, when all of America’s major candy producers were producing traditional hard candies, Milton Hershey’s Lancaster Caramel Company was one of the few that focused on producing chocolate-covered caramels rather than hard candies. But it wasn’t until 1893 that these chocolate-covered caramels truly took off. Hershey was so intrigued by the German equipment used to make chocolate bars that he copied the same technology and began mass manufacturing caramel-covered chocolates.
