📜 History of National Clerihew Day

Bentley, who was born in London, started out as a journalist before switching to poetry a few years later. His debut work, “Biography for Beginners,” introduced readers to the clerichew, a style of verse that has since come to be known as. It’s interesting to note that he had only turned 16 when he developed the disease. In order to maintain his status as the greatest comic poet of his day, he went on to write two further collections of poetry.

His poetry was still being released even after he passed away in 1956, both in print and as audio recordings. In the 20th century, the clerihew became very popular in America as famous poets of the time tried to write poetry that was just as funny.

The clerihew is a distinct poetry style that is now revered across the nation. It has its own traditions, including four lines of verse, an AABB rhyme scheme, the subject’s name in the first line, and hilarious content. On this day, both novice and experienced poets love producing humorous poetry and viewing other poets’ work.
