📜 History of National Entrepreneur’s Day

Cantillon distinguished between the entrepreneur and the investor by emphasizing the entrepreneur’s willingness to take on risk and deal with uncertainty. Another French economist, Jean-Baptiste Say, defined entrepreneurs as economic development drivers, highlighting their position as one of the production-collection variables. Say and Cantillon were both members of the French school of thought known as the physiocrats.

In the 1930s, economist Joseph Schumpeter described an entrepreneur as someone who is willing and capable of transforming a novel concept or invention into a profitable venture. Entrepreneurship, in his opinion, results in the creation of new industries and the combining of previously existent inputs. His example was the marriage of the steam engine and the wagon to create the horseless carriage.

Siamak Taghaddos, an entrepreneur, sponsored a petition in 2010 to establish a National Entrepreneur’s Day. He couldn’t understand how America, despite being the world’s most enterprising country, didn’t already have a day dedicated to honouring entrepreneurs. After six months and millions of signatures, President Obama made November 29th, the last day of National Entrepreneur Week in 2010, National Entrepreneur Day.
