📜 History of National Fourth Graders Day

Fourth grade is a significant transitional moment for children. In 1647, the Massachusetts Bay Colony began to encourage elementary schools. Students have been working their way up the educational and social ladder since then. Academic standards skyrocket in fourth grade, friendships become more real, and personalities begin to emerge. In fourth grade, there is also a greater emphasis on writing. In addition to learning about different ways to write, students must also learn how to write bigger projects and become more organized.

Fourth grade is a crucial part of introducing children to greater society—how to behave in social settings, how to improve their communication skills while engaging with others, how to form enduring friendships, and how to respect those in authority, beginning with their teachers. As children grow more aware of their environment, they develop closer ties with their peers and with their teacher. This supportive and peaceful social environment helps children develop their character and grow as people. It’s almost like an extension of a happy family.
