📜 History of National Handmade Day

Handmade items are those that are manufactured entirely or partially by hand, without the aid of machines. This does not include things that are mass-produced using automated machines. Handmade art is also known as artisanal handicraft, artisanry, handcrafting, and arts & crafts. The Arts & Crafts movement originated in the mid-nineteenth century. The Industrial Revolution brought about the transformations that spurred the movement. The nature of manufacturing changed dramatically as a result of industrialization, with mass production and the use of machines supplanting the necessity for manual labor. This also caused a lot of people to move to cities and work in factories, which added to pollution.

The movement was led by William Morris of England, who had grown more worried about the changes brought about by the Industrial Revolution. Morris established a company comprised of interior decorators and manufacturers.
