📜 History of National Happy Hour Day

Happy Hours, as we know them now, began in the early days of the Mexican-American War. During the seizure of Veracruz Harbor, American sailors onboard the USS Arkansas were the topic of frantic reporters seeking boring tales to fill in the gaps left by the earlier conflict. On May 1, 1914, notices such as “Washington Times” tar heels, “‘The Happy Hour’ Aboard Ship Makes U.S. Tars” (short for “published in the,” a slang for sailors from North Carolina) contented.Happy hours, which included boxing contests, dancing, and drinking, bolstered morale after a long day. (Despite the fact that wine was specifically prohibited aboard navy warships beginning in 1899, sailors may have snuck a drink onboard.)

Happy hours had become a “thing” by the conclusion of WWII. The relaxing habit had spread throughout the United States’ naval forces. However, on April 25, 1959, a “Saturday Evening Post” article popularized “happy hour” outside of the Navy. The dangers for people who “lived and worked on remote island outposts tracking Cape Canaveral’s missile launches,” according to “Bustle,” were described in an article titled “The Men Who Chase Missiles.”Except for those who spend too much during “happy hour” at the bar-and there are few of these-the money adds up quickly. ”

Even if we like National Happy Hour Day (and we do! ), the day itself is unrecognized. This may be one of those internet-generated days that make life so much more enjoyable. So, at the end of the day, how about we meet in the bar after work, say, around 6 p.m.?

☑️ National Happy Hour Day facts

Things to do on National Happy Hour Day

Invite your friends over for drinks
Technically, you can’t get half-off beverages if you arrange your own party, but it’s cheaper to drink at home, so you still win. You also don’t have to worry about how you’re going to get home. Granted, the ambiance may not be as “cool” as your favorite watering spot, but you can liven things up by trying out new recipes and customizing your go-to.

Go grubbin’
Happy hour is more than simply drinking. Many pubs and restaurants also have meal specials. If you’re the designated driver (or simply prefer food over drink), Happy Hour is a great value!

Go drinking where everybody knows your name
Don’t expect everyone in your favorite bar to yell out your name like they did for Norm in “Cheers,” but on National Happy Hour Day, there may be extra special discounts for bar or restaurant “regulars.” When you toss darts or play bar games with people you know, you can’t help but feel a sense of community. But don’t restrict yourself to the tried-and-true. Be daring and go somewhere you’ve been wanting to try, or plan a tiny bar crawl for the evening.
