National Integration Day, also known as Quami Ekta Divas, is an Indian event commemorating the birthday of Indira Gandhi, the country’s first female Prime Minister. Schools, colleges, and institutions around India commemorate her leadership and how she influenced the country. The main idea behind the day is that everyone should work together and that integration is important, no matter their race or religion.

📜 History of National Integration Day

In 1966, Gandhi became India’s first female Prime Minister, a position she held for 11 years. She was instrumental in bolstering the country’s democratic framework and heritage. In 1971, she won the war with Pakistan and signed a subsequent peace settlement.

She was removed from her position as Prime Minister after losing her reelection bid in 1977, only to be re-elected in 1980. Gandhi was slain at her home in New Delhi in 1984 by two of her own bodyguards.

In her honor, National Integration Day was made to encourage all Indians, no matter what race or religion they were, to live together as one.
