📜 History of National Kissing Day
Since then, historians have come to assume that the oldest allusions to kissing originate in India, citing four important passages from the Vedic Sanskrit literature as evidence. These manuscripts, which date back to 1500 B.C., define kissing as the act of rubbing and forcing the noses together.
By 326 B.C., Alexander the Great’s troops had made kissing a common practice. Alexander’s army dispersed after his death, much as the act of kissing did.
Because of the Romans, the kiss gained widespread acceptance. As they say, “do as the Romans do.” The phrase “when in Rome” will be disregarded since they took their understanding of kissing and popularized it all across the world.
Back then, a kiss merely conveyed friendliness, and it had to be “French” to convey desire. The Romans weren’t kidding around; they went so far as to draft laws outlawing the act and claiming that if a virgin was passionately kissed in public, she might seek full marital rights.
Today, without any scandal, you can see couples kissing all over, which is why we have a whole day to rejoice!
☑️ National Kissing Day facts
✅ Lips are pink because of blood vessels
Lips contain three to six layers, as opposed to the 16 layers on other sections of the skin, which means blood vessels are more visible and affect the color of the skin.
✅ In some cultures, women cover their lips
Various cultures see the lips as sexual organs.
✅ Lips lose plumpness as you age
Because collagen synthesis declines with aging, so does lip fullness.
✨ Things to do on National Kissing Day
⚡ Kiss ‘hello’
Instead of the traditional handshake or high-five, try something different inspired by the Europeans. Choose to kiss those you encounter today on both cheeks. They’ll undoubtedly think you’re quite fancy, but we wouldn’t advocate attempting this on your boss.
⚡ Try out new kissing methods
Don’t they say that practice makes perfect? You’ve mastered kissing by now, but who says you can’t have some fun with it? Add a French kiss, a butterfly kiss, or a hand kiss with a curtsey to your daily peck.
⚡ Watch a Rom-Com
If you don’t want to participate in the kissing celebrations, there’s nothing wrong with viewing a romantic movie alone or with friends. Maybe even try to find “The Kiss” and see where it all started!
