National Kitten Day for the year 2024 is celebrated/observed on Monday, July 10th. There are until the next observance.

Kittens! Who doesn’t like little, cute kittens? …their enormous heads, enormous eyes, small pink paws and noses, and the lovely meows they produce… We can’t get enough of their charming and fluffy charms. Surprisingly, Americans appear to prefer cats and kittens: the American Humane Society reports that 95.6 million cats were owned, while 83.3 million homes had a dog. There’s nothing wrong with dogs, but a little kitten is impossible to resist! So come celebrate National Kitten Day with us on July 10th!

📜 History of National Kitten Day

Cats are already so adorably cute, but when they are kittens, they are even cuter! When those cute, tiny newborns start purring, our hearts immediately melt and we want to hug and cuddle them. On National Kitten Day, we treat our furry little ones like royalty. Colleen Paige, a pet expert and animal advocate, started National Kitten Day to help homeless kittens find loving homes.

Thousands of our kittens don’t find homes, even though many of them will receive special attention today. National Kitten Day serves as a public awareness effort to save these infants who are abandoned in shelters, beside highways, or in the wild.

Things to do on National Kitten Day

Adopt a kitten! (or foster if you can’t adopt)
If you are unable to adopt a kitten and are willing to commit to being a cat mom for a furry friend, you can foster kittens. Feral kittens require human socialization before being adopted, and being with a cuddly person is far more enjoyable than languishing at a pound before finding their “forever home.” So, if you are unable to fully adopt, assist in the adoption process, and perhaps a cat will wind up living with you in the process.

Volunteer to help kittens at the ASPCA
The ASPCA is constantly looking for volunteers to help socialize stray kittens! Human interaction benefits the kittens and makes them more desirable since they are less scared of humans. Playing with kittens is fun and good for you as well as for the kitten, and you’ll feel great knowing you’re helping both of them.

Make plans to host an Uber kitten delivery if available in your area
Make sure your boss or significant other is cool with kittens showing up at your house once a year, because Uber only delivers adoptable kittens once a year. Not only will you have a good time, but one of them may end up staying with you. Plus, the $30 “snuggle fee” goes to local shelters, which is the ideal way to do good while feeling wonderful!
