The term “creative” may be traced back to the Latin word creo, which meant to make or create anything. Previously, the term was used to describe a trait that could only be attributed to a divine creator—God. Furthermore, originality was not considered during the period of the Ancient Greeks. However, a Polish poet named Maciej Kazimierz Sarbiewski, who lived in the 17th century, was the first to use the term “creativity.” However, he only used the term in the context of poetry.

Graham Walls didn’t write about the four steps of the creative process in an academic study until 1926. He called them preparation or saturation, incubation, illumination, and verification.
