📜 History of National Police Memorial Day

Despite the fact that modern police units are well-structured, they must deal with organized criminal syndicates. Sir Robert Peel established the current British police force in the 1800s. Peel’s Metropolitan Police Act of 1829 established London’s first professional, centrally organized, full-time police force. The contemporary police force is made up of passionate people who are committed to upholding law and order. They are brave people who are prepared to sacrifice their time and lives for the greater welfare of society.

The police force of the United Kingdom had a bad day in December 2000. Jon Odell, a Margate-based Kent Police officer, was murdered on the job when a speeding vehicle failed to stop and collided with him. When the catastrophe hit, he was on traffic duty and pointing his radar gun at a speeding automobile. He was dragged to his death down the road. Joe Holness founded the National Police Memorial Day to commemorate his death. It is a day set aside to honor every police officer who has died in the line of duty since police forces were established. On this day, officers’ courage, gallantry, and sacrifice, as well as their attempts to better society, are recognized.
