The I.R.S. is in charge of collecting the majority of the money for the benefit of the federal government. In 2021, it will have processed over 261 million tax returns and collected over 4.1 trillion dollars in gross taxes. In 1867, the Internal Revenue Service started a reward scheme to compensate those who reported tax evasion. Surprisingly, the previous tax incentive scheme was seldom utilized.

The Internal Revenue Service developed the Tax Whistleblower Rewards Program in December 2006, which specified minimum compensation levels and allowed a whistleblower to employ a counsel to collect the award amount. However, the new strategy only applies to tax evasion involving $2 million or more. To be eligible for a reward, the whistleblower must fill out I.R.S. Form 211 and provide detailed details. The documentation and information can also be submitted by the applicant’s lawyer. The federal and state governments in the United States each have their own tax systems, and taxes can take numerous forms, including property taxes, income taxes, sales taxes, capital gains taxes, and so on.
