📜 History of National Sisters Day

Trung Trac and Trung Nhi, the Trung sisters, spearheaded the first Vietnamese independence movement in 39 CE, successfully rising against their Chinese overlords and creating their own matriarchal independent kingdom. They were reared practicing martial arts and studying warfare and went on to form a vast army of primarily female rebels.

Angelina and Sarah Grimke were 19th-century women’s rights advocates and abolitionists, which is particularly amazing given that their father was a rich slave owner in their city of Charleston. The women gave up their luxurious way of life, moved north, became Quakers, and gave talks about the terrible things they had seen because of slavery.

Charlotte, Emily, and Anne Bronte are famous for their books and literary achievements. Their corpus of work includes masterpieces like Jane Eyre and Wuthering Heights. The sisters are claimed to be very close because their mother and two elder sisters died, and they were raised in relative solitude.

Patricia, Minerva, and Antonia Mirabal, collectively known as Las Mariposas, are Dominican Republic national heroes for their opposition to dictator Rafael Trujillo. Throughout the twentieth century, the three young ladies became icons of both popular and feminist opposition.

Serena and Venus Williams are undoubtedly the world’s most renowned sisters right now. They will both be remembered as two of the greatest tennis players of all time. They have also opened the door for many additional African American and Hispanic players in a sport that was formerly highly exclusive and monochromatic. They have won nearly 100 singles titles between them, as well as 22 doubles titles, including 14 grand slam titles and three Olympic gold medals.

These are just a few of history’s tough sisters. On National Sisters Day 2021, remember to appreciate your sister or sisters.
