📜 History of National Veggie Burger Day

The introduction of vegetarianism to Gregory Sams and his brother Craig came from their father, who gave up meat as a New Year’s resolution. Gregory claimed in an interview that he stopped eating meat when he was 10 years old. At his restaurant in Paddington, London, which he had launched when he was just 19 years old, he first started introducing vegetarian burgers. Later, the two Sams brothers teamed up to launch a new food business, but they encountered financial difficulties. They devised a strategy to launch a 100% vegetarian burger as a new type of burger on the market. The name “vege” (what we now refer to as “veggie”) was a relatively new one when the “VegeBurger” was first presented. Although there were several vegetarian burgers available previously, this was the first one to be completely vegetarian. This burger’s prelaunch was a big success, and it quickly spread to grocery store chains including Sainsbury’s and Safeway.

Veggie burgers aren’t the only meat alternatives that have proliferated recently; Impossible Burgers and Beyond Meat’s Beyond Burger Patty are just two examples. Amy’s Kitchen, a vegetarian food company, set up National Veggie Burger Day to promote the veggie burger and draw attention to the good things it does for the environment.
