On January 12, India observes National Youth Day. This day was chosen to commemorate Swami Vivekananda’s birthday, one of India’s greatest spiritual and social leaders. He found optimism for the future in every kid and felt that with “muscles of iron” and “nerves of steel” they might effect societal change. Swami embodied the perpetual energy of youth and a relentless search for truth. Today, about half of India’s population is under the age of 25. The country’s future rests on their shoulders, making festivities that empower young people all the more vital.
