📜 History of Romania National Day

The country’s independence day has been moved several times in the past: first, it was May 10, to commemorate the day King Carol I ratified the Declaration of Independence from the Ottoman Empire in 1877; then, starting in 1948, it was moved to August 23, to commemorate the 1944 overthrow of the country’s pro-Nazi government. However, Romania’s independence day has been commemorated on December 1 since 1990.

Outside the nation, Romania’s National Day is better known as the Great Union, and the yearly military parade held on that day with a normally large throng of spectators is loved by Romanians and foreigners alike.

Documents show that the documents approving the merger of the territories were signed in the city of Alba Iulia. In 1918, the statement was read out loud to a large group of Romanians.
