Every year on July 16, Rural Transit Day is honored. The holiday was introduced in 2019 by the National Rural Transit Assistance Program (National R.T.A.P.). This day focuses on how transit organizations thank passengers and employees. 📜 History of Rural Transit Day

Since then, they have created and disseminated training materials, given technical support, generated reports, published best practices, conducted research, offered peer assistance, and established web-based apps for tribal and rural transportation providers as well as state R.T.A.P. programs. In addition to encouraging and supporting peer networks at the state, local, and local levels to address training and technical assistance needs, the program aimed to raise the quality of training and technical assistance resources available to the industry, encourage the coordination of transportation services, and create a national database of industry data.

They provide free technical help tools and programs, such as training manuals, webinars, newsletters, technical briefs, peer resources, research, and cutting-edge technological projects. The F.T.A. and the Neponset Valley Transportation Management Association collaborated to manage the National RTA Program from 1992 to 2008. They began giving out “Achievements in Rural Transit Assistance” in 1994. In 2012, they conducted the inaugural National R.T.A.P. Technical Assistance Conference. The inaugural Tribal Transit Awards and Rural Transit Day were celebrated in 2019, and the first Tribal Transit Mini-Conference was held in 2021.
