📜 History of Supply Chain Professionals Day
Although a British logistics specialist named Keith Oliver first used the phrase “supply chain” in 1982, the assembly line was first researched and created in the early 20th century, far before that, during World War I. As globalization grew and the need for raw materials to manufacture products expanded, the role of supply chains and supply chain specialists continued to become more important. To meet these goals, people who work in operations management started to focus on delivery methods and channels, as well as how to make the supply and distribution of these things quick and effective.
Operations managers began adopting “supply chain professionals” or “supply chain experts” as their titles in the 1990s to emphasize their primary areas of competence. A supply chain professional nowadays is anyone working in any capacity throughout the whole supply chain, from the point of origin of the product to the end user or customer. These individuals might be warehouse keepers who store and maintain inventory, logistics partners who plan and arrange the flow of products, or supply chain managers who plan and organize the flow of goods.
Because of the work of these supply chain specialists, we now have marketplaces brimming with products, industries operating and manufacturing those commodities, and doorstep deliveries of any commodity anywhere in the globe. The Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals established Supply Chain Professionals Day to show our gratitude to those who work in the supply chain and to celebrate their successes. On May 21, 2018, the inaugural Supply Chain Professionals Day was observed.
