📜 History of Tet Nguyen Dan
During their reign, the Chinese government carried their policies, culture, and customs with them. They also worked hard to guarantee that the cultures were absorbed and accepted by the general public. As a result, Chinese customs merged with Vietnamese culture, and Tet Nguyen Dan was born.
Vietnam also included the Chinese calendar’s 12 animals. The sole change is that the Vietnamese substituted the Chinese calendar’s ox, rabbit, and sheep with the buffalo, cat, and goat. During the celebration, the Vietnamese paint the streets and residences with red and yellow, believing that the colors bring good fortune. Locals also avoid sweeping their homes during Tet Nguyen Dan for fear of sweeping away good luck.
