📜 History of Thomas Paine Day

He began writing “Common Sense,” his first pamphlet, in 1772; it was finished and published four years later. As thousands of copies were disseminated, it was a success. His writing had a significant impact on the argument for the superiority of representative governance. After that, Paine enrolled in the army of General George Washington during the American Revolution. Paine created “The American Crisis” to give the troops a feeling of hope after observing how demoralized and forlorn they were.

After embarking on a political career, Paine was appointed Pennsylvania Assembly clerk in 1779. During this period, he struggled financially from his books and government duties and asked the council for assistance. After finishing “The Rights of Man” in three parts, Paine wrote and published “The Age of Reason” in 1791. The later book generated a lot of controversy and received little acclaim. As a result of the criticism he received for being anti-Church, he even lost credibility for this effort. He passed away in New York City on June 8, 1809. It seems like the “Thomas Paine National Historical Association” is in charge of his brain tissue and hair.
