📜 History of Universal Day of Culture

The Roerich Pact, which explains the significance of the Universal Day of Culture, was initially suggested in 1931. It was initially adopted by the United States on April 15, 1935, in Washington, establishing April 15 as the official day for worldwide commemoration. Several efforts were undertaken throughout the twentieth century to achieve the goal of this holiday, making it one of the most major international festivities. The Banner of Peace, which is still used to mark this special day all over the world, is known as the symbol of the pact.

The affirmation of this global day is supported by an international movement, and all participating nations arrange and coordinate international programs to facilitate intercultural interaction, which is one of the day’s purposes. In December 2008, charitable groups from Cuba, Italy, Lithuania, Latvia, Russia, and Spain joined forces to create The International Movement for the Affirmation of April 15 as Universal Day of Culture (I.M.A.U.D.C.). The Movement now includes forty groups from 14 countries and 25,000 individuals.
