Every year on July 1, the British Virgin Islands celebrate Virgin Islands Day. It is crucial to note that the date of this holiday may vary in order to generate a long weekend. Until 2021, this holiday was known as Territory Day. The British Virgin Islands are situated in the eastern Caribbean Sea. Tortola, Anegada, Virgin Gorda, and Jost Van Dyke are the four major islands, and there are 32 smaller islands and islets, including Great Tobago, Salt, Peter, Cooper, Norman, Guana, Beef, Great Thatch, Little Thatch, and Marina Cay, of which more than 20 are deserted.

📜 History of Virgin Islands Day
The BVI joined the Federation of Leeward Islands in 1871, together with other British colonies in the northern Caribbean Sea. The dissolution of the federation and the founding of the Colony of the Virgin Islands in 1956 are the dates on which this holiday first appeared. Colony Day was the previous name for the celebration. By the late 1960s, as the bigger colonies in the area began to move toward independence, official documents started to refer to the Virgin Islands as a territory rather than a colony. In 1978, the Public Holiday Act was revised to add Territory Day in place of Colony Day.
Following the recommendation of the BVI Public Holidays Review Committee, Cabinet agreed that Territory Day will be replaced with Virgin Islands Day on December 2, 2020. Minister of Education, Culture, Youth Affairs, Fisheries, and Agriculture, Natalio D. Wheatley
