📜 History of Woodie Wagon Day

Once woodies gained popularity, businesses like Ford began mass-producing them. When automobiles were at the height of their fame, they were even featured in well-known Hollywood films. Although the automobile was in high demand, manufacturing was limited since it was difficult and expensive to produce. In fact, Ford started planting and harvesting its own trees to boost output. By the 1950s, demand for woodies had significantly reduced as a result of how expensive and difficult they had become to maintain. The Streamliner Wagon, the final wagon made by Plymouth, was released in 1949. The wagon was built in about 1,000 variants before being formally decommissioned in 1950.

The usage of tractors declined as steel automobiles were introduced. Surfers began using woodies to carry their boards to the beach in the 1960s. These days, woodie wagons are frequently on exhibit at museums and auto fairs. At the Paris Motor Show in 2010, GM also showed a prototype of a woodie version of the Chevrolet. In the same year, George Barris designed a woodie version of the Smart Fortwo.
