πŸ“œ History of World Autoimmune Arthritis Day

Rheumatoid arthritis, sometimes referred to as R.A. or rheumatoid disease arthritis, is a chronic illness that causes inflammation in the body’s joints. Chronic refers to an illness that has a protracted incubation period, sometimes years. Dr. Augustus Bozzi Granville, a British doctor, wrote the first essay on rheumatoid arthritis in 1800. He specifically outlined the signs and symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis in this essay and classified it as an immune system disorder. However, Dr. Augustin Jacob LandrΓ©-Beauvais of France offered the first precise description of R.A. in 1859. He did so by providing a thorough analysis of the symptoms and by displaying x-rays of the affected joints.

Rheumatoid arthritis was not acknowledged as an autoimmune illness until 1929. The term “autoimmunity” was used by a German pathologist by the name of Paul Ehrlich to describe an antibody that is directed against the tissues of the host. When it was found that serum from animals that had been given bacterial toxins during World War I might be able to cure tetanus, this idea was looked into more.

The founding of World Autoimmune Arthritis Day on May 20 in 2012, which aims to increase public awareness of autoimmune and autoinflammatory disorders that manifest with arthritis as a symptom, was led by the International Autoimmune Arthritis Movement (I.A.A.M.).
