πŸ“œ History of World Bartender Day

It wasn’t until the 1800s that the general public began to have a positive image of bartending and stopped morally and ethically evaluating bartenders. This is when Jerry Thomas, the “father of bartending,” rose to prominence for the unique drinks he made at his New York City establishments. Thomas was the first to produce a book on bartending, The Bar-Guide, also known as Tender’s or How to Mix Drinks, which was released in 1862.

Since then, the career of bartender has grown in popularity because of the creativity, expertise, and attention to detail required in developing, preparing, and serving cocktailsβ€”often to rowdy clientele. While the industry had a period of downturn in the 1920s and early 1930s (when the United States was under prohibition), bartenders have sprung back into activity since then, and one cannot imagine a hospitality facility without them. World Bartender Day honors the creative ingenuity and abilities of individuals who work in bars all around the world. The day may have come about as a result of The Perfect Blend, a cocktail competition held in Australia and New Zealand.
