📜 History of World Hearing Day
Prior to 2016, it was known as International Ear Care Day. Each year, WHO selects a topic, develops teaching materials, and makes them publicly available in a number of languages. It also organizes and reports on events all across the world.
Deaf people who use hand signals to communicate are proud of their history. In 1816, a deaf teacher named Laurent Clerc and an American teacher named Thomas H. Gallaudet helped set up the first permanent school for deaf students in the United States.
In the late 1850s, there was a dispute in the west about whether to establish a distinct deaf state. The idea was inspired by an occurrence in which the American Congress gave up a little part of Alabama to the American Asylum. The deaf state was supposed to be a location where deaf people might move and thrive if they so wished, but the concept fell through, and the argument died with it.
To honor World Hearing Day in 2021, the first World Report on Hearing was published. Through the global dissemination of the study, WHO intends to reach out to national governments, global non-governmental organizations, and development organizations, as well as actors in the hearing care industry, to raise awareness and coordinate action. The World Report on Hearing and World Hearing Day are global calls to action to combat hearing loss and ear diseases.
