📜 History of Zambia Independence Day

Because Zambia had no sea access, European settlers did not visit until the end of the nineteenth century. Cecil Rhodes, the leader of the British South African Company, negotiated a pact with the vineyard’s paramount chief in 1888 and obtained mining rights in the region. The British gained total control of the region after suppressing tribal uprisings. This territory was dubbed North-Western Rhodesia.

After World War II, Africa began the process of decolonization. The United Kingdom agreed to construct the Federation of Rhodesia and Nyasaland in 1953, which included Northern Rhodesia (now Zambia), Southern Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe), and Nyasaland (now Malawi). The Northern Rhodesians were outraged by this decision and took a firm stance against the formation of this federation. The federation resulted in the formation of two nationalist parties, and nationwide strikes occurred in 1960 and 1961. The federation was eventually disbanded in December 1963 as a consequence of fierce objections by Northern Rhodesian soldiers. The country had general elections in January 1964, and President Kenneth Kaunda assumed office 10 months later, on October 24, 1964. The country was called the Republic of Zambia by the President.

The Republic of Zambia commemorates its Independence Day with zeal and zeal. It is a time to remember Zambia’s Solidarity and Peace Convention, which is summed up in the phrase “One Zambia, One Nation,” and to reaffirm Zambia’s commitment to a democratic future that protects individual rights and promotes good government.
