Chefs were first hired by monarchs, nobility, and priest families in the past. On the other hand, those in lower social groups cooked for their families. A wide variety of cuisines emerged as a result of class inequalities in cooking. As gastronomy and the scientific study of food have been utilized to expound on his concepts, Jean Anthelme Brillat-Savarin’s written contributions to the culinary arts in Europe are well appreciated. In Asia, a comparable academic path and growth were taken.
Western culinary arts started to take off around the end of the Renaissance. During this time, the study of culinary arts as a separate academic field also began to take shape. In the beginning, students worked as cooks’ apprentices. The Boston Culinary School was America’s first dedicated cooking school when it initially opened its doors in 1879. Colleges and universities now offer a wide range of degrees in culinary arts, and there are tens of thousands of culinary arts schools all over the world.
